So you’re on a smartphone, and you’ve always wondered how you can download your photos? Well, I’ve finally made a guide on how to do just that!
Background
So the web browser in Instagram doesn’t allow for downloading, and it’s not something I can fix as I can’t modify the code in that browser. What we can do is get you into Safari (iOS) or Chrome (Android) on your phone, which will allow downloads. This guide is iOS specific for today, but I will add the Android steps once my Android tablet charges up.
Steps
So, first thing’s first: make sure to follow @starkphotographyne on Instagram so you know when they go live! When you see my posts, click on my Instagram handle above the posts to be taken to my Instagram profile.
So now you’re on my Instagram profile, with the ability to go back in time (to a degree). The next thing you will do is click on the link to my website (circled with an arrow pointing to it). That will then open my website in the Instagram browser.
Okay, so we’re now on my website in the Instagram browser. You can see your photos, but you just can’t download them. The Flickr app does help fix some of these issues, but I totally understand if you don’t want to download another app. For that, we need to get to get out of the Instagram app and into your phone’s actual Web browser.
To do that, we will click on the three dots in the upper-right hand corner of the screen. That will then bring up the following menu:
So, to get into a useful Web browser we will now click on the Open in Browser button that I have circled above. That will then open my website in your phone’s actual Web browser:
So now you’re in a Web browser that will allow you to download the photos you love the most! To get to the photos before August 21, 2022, clicking on the photo will allow you to go to Flickr. To download the photos on August 21, 2022 and after, open the week that you want to download photos. You will then get a screen where you can scroll to the photos:
Clicking on any of the photos will bring up a larger view of the photo, along with a toolbar with a download button:
Clicking on the circled button will cause the photo to be downloaded to your device. Select Download to continue downloading:
Once the photo is downloaded, you can access it via the address bar menu (clicking on the left-hand side where the blue arrow is):
Once opened, click on the Downloads item:
Once there, you’ll be able to see all the photos you have downloaded. You can just download as many as you want before going to this menu.
When you click on a photo you have downloaded, it will bring up a fullscreen view of your photo. Clicking on the circled button will allow you to import it to Photos, or to share to social media.
Once that button is clicked, you should be able to share to any app you have installed on your phone (red circle) or save the photo to your Photos app (yellow circle).
Yeah, it’s a little involved… sorry… 😅 Once you get the hang of it, it shouldn’t be too hard. If you have any issues, feel free to message me on Instagram or use the contact form on my homepage.
When sharing, all I ask is that you try to keep the watermark in the photos or tag me when posting to social media. Doing both works too! 😁
Conclusion
Yeah, the Instagram browser sucks. In fact, Instagram has tried making changes lately that impact the posting of photos and even the dancing videos I’ve been trying to move to. Expect me to continue to keep my website live because I’m not sure how much longer it’s viable to post to Instagram to be honest.
Anyways, have a great day and peace out! 😁
